In May 2007, the Government of Belize inaugurated a ferry that reduced the drive time from Orchid Bay to Corozal Town from two hours to 25 minutes. Drive time to Chetumal Mexico was reduced from two and one-half hours to 55 minutes.
Furthermore, the ferry now allows for a short 20-minute drive to Corozal airport, allowing Orchid Bay to be easily and inexpensively accessed from anywhere in the country.
