Unlike most Caribbean islands, ocean front and oceanview real estate on Roatan still remains remarkable value and is showing robust appreciation. For those seeking island property Oceano is a must see. Being secluded from the busy west end of Roatan means Oceano buyers have secure Caribbean property, professionally managed for lock-and-leave convenience.

With a Caribbean culture and predominantly English speaking, the population of Roatan is a blend of British, Spanish, Payan Indian and African cultures.

Known for world class diving, Roatan and Oceano is now a place called home for an increasing number of astute property purchasers. For those who appreciate the value, burgeoning market, accessibility, tax-free freeport status and easy year-round living.

Not far from Dixon Cove is a cruise ship port at Coxen Hole, the administrative capital of the Bay Islands in the southwest region of Roatán, where Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines agreed to take charge of significant renovations. The project is at an estimated cost of $18 million, according to LatinFinance.

In the West End, upscale condos are under construction, along with a new suburban-style shopping plaza with air-conditioned shops.

The Department of Tourism estimates that of the 1,000,000 tourists who will come ashore next year, approximately 20% will return for another, extended visit. And of that 20%, an additional 20% will buy property on the Bay Islands.

Not when some 78 million Baby Boomers are already starting to look longingly to the sunnier climates and lower costs of a tropical paradise ...

Roatán accounted for more than 40 percent of Honduras' $450 million in tourism revenue in 2006, according to an article published by LatinFinance last March. That's not bad for a landmass less than one-hundredth of the size of its mainland counterpart.
