MONTECRISTO - Neighbourhoods From its inception, Montecristo has been designed to be the finest seaside community on the Nicaraguan coast.
Montecristo offers four neighbourhoods to suit a variety of tastes and styles. Community activities range from water sports, golf, tennis and horseback riding, there is even a community library, art and salsa lessons. | The first of the four neighbourhoods is the CUMBRES. It is named for the cliffs on which it sits. Cumbres boasts a unique elegance and charm and is situated on what is the most beautiful piece of Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline. Almost every site in this neighbourhood has a spectacular view and is only a few minutes walk to the beach. Lot sizes average just over 1/3 acre, with a few larger sites available. Home sites range from 1 to 4 acres in size and afford plenty of privacy and personal space. Cielos is situated immediately north of Cumbres and has several small private beaches and tidal pools. Jorge Estrada has a long history in Nicaragua. Jorge Estrada’s family tree includes three former Nicaraguan presidents and several Premier Generals of the Republic. After working in the U.S. as a clinic administrator for a number of years, he returned to Nicaragua in 1997 with his wife Lori, a physician specializing in orthopedics, and their three children. One of the Estrada’s first projects in Nicaragua was to establish a premiere orthopedic clinic in Managua. The couple developed a number of community outreach programs which earned them in 2003, the Diploma of Honor from the National Fire Department in Managua and a 2004 Medal of Amistad from the National Police. In the last 5 years the Estradas began to talk about creating an inviting community to live in. They chose this piece of Pacific coastline and agreed to only accept the highest in standards for all the details. Now that dream is called Montecristo. | "Tourism has already overtaken coffee as the country's main source of earnings. Visitor numbers reached 770,000 last year, representing an increase of 11 per cent in the past six years, and revenue totalled US$230 million.
Among those 770,000 were 15,000 from Britain, a market Nicaragua hopes to nurture. For the moment, though, most visitors are from the US, whose citizens - those who have noticed the Contra war is over - see Nicaragua as "a new Costa Rica".
