| TRAVELLING CARIBBEAN FILM SHOWCASE LAUNCHES IN ST.KITTS-NEVIS by Marlene L. Phillips
The launch of the first ever “Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase” (T.C.F.S.) at the “Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium - Eastern Central Caribbean Bank. The “St. Kitts-Nevis Coordination Committee – T.C.F.S. operating with the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture will be hosting the arrival of twenty-eight films, created by twenty-nine Caribbean Directors, originating from thirteen Caribbean Countries who are all telling Caribbean Stories. February 23rd – 26th, film screenings will continue around the clock over a four-day period to allow Nationals and visitors to participate in this movie marathon.
In 2005, the success of a Cuban film festival in Kingston, Jamaica propelled the vision of Jamaican and Cuban cultural officials to organize a showcase of Caribbean films that would travel through the region giving further exposure to the thriving film industry in the Caribbean. U.N.E.S.C.O. Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Havana - Cuba, coordinated with U.N.E.S.C.O. Offices in Kingston - Jamaica and Port au-Prince - Haiti, the Association of Caribbean States, cultural institutions and governments of nations hosting the event, the University of West Indies, the Casa de las Americas Caribbean Studies Centre and the Foundation of the New Latin American Cinema TELESUR to establish the process and decide that the Film Showcase would travel between February- May 2007.
The Organizing Committee in Havana – Cuba spear-heading the process, ensured that Coordination Committees were established in each of the participating countries to select three of their best films produced by Nationals. The films were sent to the Organizing Committee who screened them and decided which ones would become part of the showcase. Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Frances Coppola and Robert Redford won’t be the directors of films that will be screened at the “Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase” but, Arnold Antonin “Tiene Sida El Presidente?” and Raoul Peck “L’Homme Sur Les Quais” from Haiti, Stephanie Black ”Life and Debt” and Perry Henzell “The Harder They Come” from Jamaica, Geoffrey Dunn and Michael Horne “Calypso Dreams” from Trinidad and Tobago and Euzhan Palcy “Rue Cases Negres” from Martinica will.
Although, things are always subject to change, the planned route is St. Vincent (March 26th - 30th), Jamaica, St. Lucia, Haiti and Belice (April), then to the Bahamas in May. For More Information about the T.C.F.S. contact Luis Notario, Coordinator notario@caic.cu. | BRANSON'S PAYS 10MILLION FOR A SECOND CARIBBEAN ISLAND February 2007
Virgin coastline: Moskito Island, where Sir Richard Branson plans to build a luxury resort for eco-friendly holidaymakers Branson.
Sir Richard Branson has bought a second Caribbean island for £10million with a view to turning it into a luxury resort for ecofriendly families.
Moskito is just one and a half miles from Necker, the island home the Virgin tycoon paid £130,000 for in 1976.
His plans for Moskito's 120 acres are still being drawn up but will include Balinesestyle lodges made from local trees and resources.
The resort is expected to be powered by wind, wave or solar power, and appeal to those in search of an environmentally responsible break.
Sir Richard's Virgin Atlantic airline flies eight routes to the Caribbean. Both Moskito and the 74-acre Necker are part of the British Virgin Islands, to the east of Puerto Rico.
He said: "I was terrified that Moskito would end up in the wrong hands and be ruined.
"It is a beautiful island that needs love and attention. I want to start from scratch and create the most ecologically friendly island in the world.
"Come back in five years and you'll find a mini-Bali with a rainforest in the Caribbean."
Conventional cars will be banned although there may be small electric to ferry visitors around. Sir Richard, 56, is already installing wind and wave turbines and solar panels on Necker, which is used as a hideaway by celebrities such as Mariah Carey and Annie Lennox. Princess Diana was also a visitor.
Sir Richard said he intended Moskito to be carbon neutral. This means that any carbon dioxide which is produced will be off-set by actions which remove the gas from the atmosphere, such as planting more trees.
He said Necker should itself be "CO2 neutral" within nine months.
Sir Richard, who spoke on the environment to the U.S. Senate in Washington on Wednesday, said: "Both islands are test beds and hopefully other islands in the Caribbean will follow suit."
A spokesman for Virgin said: "This will be the ultimate ecofriendly family holiday destination. Sir Richard is designing it now. There are a couple of buildings on the island, but apart from that it is unspoilt.
 | LIAT AND CARIBBEAN STAR MERGER Caribpro Source
As the final merger draws closer, in line with Caribbean Star's migration to LIAT's "LI" airline designator code, Caribbean Star passengers will need to adhere to new check-in procedures. Airline designators, also known as reservation codes, are two-character codes assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to the world's airlines. They form the first two characters of the flight number and are used to identify an airline for all commercial purposes, including reservations, schedules/timetables, tickets, tariffs, air waybills and interline telecommunications.
"The sharing of a single airline designator clearly illustrates the Caribbean Star/LIAT partnership in a tangible way for the first time. Beginning February 1, 2007, all Caribbean Star and LIAT passengers checked in at LIAT airport counters in 20 of the 22 destinations served by both carriers. The two exceptions were Curacao and Tobago where customers checked in at Caribbean Star counters.
Passengers also now have the choice of contacting LIAT or Caribbean Star for new reservations. The Caribbean Star directs users to the LIAT website where the online booking system is implemented.
The latest development involves the publishing of the first schedule combining the flight operations of both carriers. The new schedule, which was made available for bookings as of January 14, 2007, becames effective February 1, 2007 and maintains service to all 22 gateways previously served by both carriers.
To make the transition to the new schedule and airline designator code as smooth as possible for passengers, Caribbean Star and LIAT reservations staff are proactively contacting customers holding confirmed tickets during the affected periods to re-accommodate travel plans where necessary.
Jean Stewart Holder Chairman of LIAT Board of Directors and R. Allen Stanford, Chairman of the Board of Caribbean Star Airlines welcomes the opportunity to work together, "to create what could eventually become the most modern and efficient airline in the Caribbean!" | | | |

| | Have you ever thought about retiring in Mexico? How about retiring in one of its many lovely retirement havens? Dru Pearson, the author of this report, tells us that there are five major areas where American and Canadian retirees tend to congregate. While there may be a few expatriates scattered in a dozen villages throughout Mexico, most Americans and Canadians settle in one of five locations: San Miguel de Allende, Mazatlan, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, or Lake Chapala. Dru Pearson visited all these areas before settling in Lake Chapala. Dru gives sound and thoughtful advice on retirement in Mexico. Everything from how to pick your location to Mexican paperwork is covered. If you've ever considered retirement in Mexico please read this report first. It has the information that would otherwise take you months of frustration to acquire.
But why Mexico, you might ask? The reason so many Americans and Canadians choose Mexico is because they can drive to Mexico in a car. A bigger reason is that Mexico is a bargain compared to the USA and Canada. But there are also a large number of Europeans in Mexico. Mexico is rich with history, steeped in culture, having perhaps a more pronounced culture than any other nation in latin America with the exception of Brazil and Argentina. Mexico has great food, great architecture and many areas with an excellent climate. Mexico is also modern, with better highways than many parts of latin America and an infrastructure that allows foreigners to connect via telephone and internet to the rest of the world. This level of infrastructure isn't available in Nicaragua, nor in Guatemala, and this is a very important determining factor for the retiree who doesn't want to be inconvenienced by inconveniences.

| By Jennifer Miller - "The island of Dominica is alive. Her towering green mountains flow with spring water and are covered with rainforest. Parrots fly in her skies. Ocean life teems at her shores. Her volcanoes create bubbling sulphur pots and even cause a lake to boil.
There is an earthy, beckoning presence to this island. An untamed wildness invites the newcomer to walk in her primal forests then enter the caress of her warm mineral baths. The abundance of fertile nature dazzles the eye and the sweet scents of bay leaf and ginger permeate the air like perfume. Souls have lost their hearts to lesser beauty.
Prepare to fall in love, utterly and completely, the Island whispers. Prepare to be unwilling to settle for life anywhere but on this living island.
And this living island can bring new life to you, too."
