If you're looking for an affordable community with international schools and most North American conveniences, take a look at Belen in Heredia. It is located in the most convenient location in the Central Valley of Costa Rica just 10 minutes from the international airport and the drive to the capital, San Jose, and it's theatres and cultural events in the evenings, is about 15 minutes.  Read more about the Central Valley On July 24, 2007, in Costa Rica's largest Spanish newspaper, La Nacion, it was reported that Belen was rated the #1 Municipality in Costa Rica for the third year in a row.   There were 30 evaluations considered by the Control General of the Republic to determine how the municipalities had performed. Some of the considerations used were debt ratings, collection of taxes, usage of municipal funds to clean and improve the local infrastructure and growth from income and investments. If you're looking for a comfortable climate and a safe community to live in, check out the Condos Belen. These newly remodeled 2 bedroom, 1 bath condos have fabulous views of the mountains, so you feel like your out in the country but your just blocks from everything you need.  There are only two of these 2nd floor condos available, in a very secure gated complex with phone lines and high-speed cable internet connection.  They have big brand new kitchens with appliances & the baths are brand new with American Standard fixtures with hot water from all outlets and new aluminum windows with screens.  As far as air conditioning is concerned, the new ceiling fans in every room are all you need.  The monthly maintenance fee is $9.67, the electric bill averages $14.00 and the annual taxes including garbage pick up, street cleaning, etc. are $31.20.  In Belen you can walk to get everything you need and do not get stuck in traffic jams or need to drive all over to find parking.  So not only do you feel good about cutting back on fuel consumption but its great exercise and you meet a lot of new friends on the sidewalks.  If you want to get to know a community and the locals better, walk around as much as you can and say "hola" or "que tal" to as many people as possible to see how friendly the locals are toward you.  In many Latin pueblos it's difficult to walk around because there is little or no infrastructure. In Belen there are handicap accessible ramps at most major intersections and ample sidewalks everywhere. Read more about Real Estate Investments in Costa RicaThere are a variety of restaurants within walking distance from the condos, offering some of the best fire cooked chicken, broiled fish, Chinese, pizza and typical Tico food. The prices are lower here than in most pueblos. You will only need to spend an average of 1500 colones or $2.90 for fresh cooked meals. A beer in the local bar is 500 colones or $.96 and a Johnnie Walker is 700 colones or $1.35. The municipality in Belen is very organized and keeps development under check which enables the community to stay clean.  Additionally, it is one of the safest communities because it has its own Municipal Police force in addition to the Fuerza Publica and Transito officials that are present throughout the country.  Belen is 15 minutes from hospitals; Clinica Biblica, http://www.clinicabiblica.com/english/msocial.php, and CIMA, http://www.hospitalsanjose.net. For those folks who need a bilingual grade thru high school for their kids, we have The American International School, http://www.aiscr.com. Shopping is a 5 minute walk to several small grocery stores or Pali which is now owned by Walmart.  Belen is only 5 minutes away on the expressway that connects the international airport to the capital of San Jose, where you can find the Real Cariari Mall with 3 floors of shopping and 6 US style cinemas and tons of restaurants. Across from MultiPlaza Mall is Plaza Iscatzu which contains Outback Steakhouse, Hooters and many other desirable locals. Within five more minutes is Friday's and Tony Romas if you're interested in US based restaurants. I prefer the very affordable fresh chicken and seafood available in Belen within walking distance from the condos. The local roasted (over coffee wood) chicken restaurant charges $4.64 for a 1/4 chicken with salad and tortillas incl. tip. Dinner at the El Dorado Seafood restaurant of fresh Corvina or Dorado, salad and plantinos was $5.00 incl. tip. The lunch special at the local cafeteria is $3.00 and is more than a normal person can eat. We have 100.0Mbps internet service for $20 p/month from the Cable Tica company that provides cable TV for $20 p/month. http://www.cabletica.com They rent or sell a Motorola SB 5100 SURFboard cable modem and a Linksys Wireless-G, 2.4 Ghz Broadband Router with the Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network that works great!  | ||||||
