Honduras Bakery

A High Profile Two-Outlet Profitable Bakery Available for Immediate Cash Sale in La Ceiba, Honduras

A search on Google reveals that La Ceiba “is a lot more than a port city with lots of hospitality and charm, it has the potential to develop into THE Ecotourism Capital of Central America. Its proximity to the Pico Bonito National Park, Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, Cayos Cochinos Marine Reserve are but a few of the many nature attractions available at just a short distance from the city.”

This is one of the many reason why the current owners of Laura’s Bakery stayed in Honduras for 15 years and are having such a hard time trying to sell up and leave.

“Family matters,” says Laura Cole, “mean that we have to sell up and return to California. The things we will miss the most are the warm people and climate. We enjoy visiting with our customers when they come into the Bakery. The people are friendly here and the weather is a year-round tropical delight.”

The main bakery starts baking at 5am each morning, in downtown La Ceiba. The world goes past on their daily business tantalised by the fresh smell of baking bread drifting across on the morning air. Luckily, for those that can't resist , there is plenty of parking both in front and to the side, as the shop, a pretty little wooden yellow house, is on a corner.

Across the street is a new, very busy Medical Center, and a little further down the road is the very upmarket residential area of Colonia Naranjal . Residents stop at the bakery for a fresh supply of bread, cinammon rolls and perhaps a ‘pain au chocolat’ or two, on a regular basis.

Not everyone just buys and leaves, some customers like to sit at a spare table and relax a little during the busy day and perhaps meet with a friend. Soaking up the gentle ambience of quiet classical or jazz music playing in the background, the clean, attractive décor and the smell of coffee and those famous cinammon rolls. Tables and chairs are also set up on the pavement in the warm sunshine for those who like to ‘people watch’ and enjoy the world go by.

Regular customers are a mix of wealthy and upwardly mobile Hondurans and the international crowd that makes La Ceiba such a dynamic, busy town. Because of La Ceiba’s prime position as a Caribbean port and only a few miles from the popular offshore holiday destinations of the Bay Islands, there are always tourists passing through. Wholesale orders from local businesses and from Roatan and Utila, the Bay Islands right off the coast, are a mainstay of the business, and expanding fast. “Just this week,” says Laura excitedly,” we will start making cookies and brownies for a well-known ice cream chain that originates here in La Ceiba. Their ice-cream sandwiches will include our very own brownies!”

The Megaplaza Mall is fairly new and strategically placed on the other side of town. As soon as Laura was ready to open a second shop she not only knew it would be in the The Mall but she had her eye on the optimum spot , immediately the top of the escalator where every shopper has to pass and next to the restrooms and the ATM.

Today, as shoppers ride up the escalator they are treated to the tantalising smell of chocolate and spices and warm breads. Its hard to walk past the Bakery with its bright golden sign and the welcoming smiles of the staff. And even harder not to be seduced by the sparkling glass fronted shelves stacked with muffins, cheesecakes, chocolatines, cookies, pecan pie and three types of biscotti in tall glass jars, and many, many mouthwatering alternatives. And then there are the different sandwiches topped off with Laura’s Italian Secret dressing, which can be made to order throughout the day.

Laura focuses on natural and high quality products. Much of it is sourced locally but some are imported which is not difficult. Laura uses an excellent piece of software that organizes her recipes and even estimates out profits from costs of ingredients. All the recipes for Laura’s Bakery famous breads and cakes are kept on the computer and will become the property of the new owner.

La Ceiba Honduras Bakery

The most popular travel guide and magazine in the country, Honduras Tips, writes in their 2007 issue: “LAURA’S BAKERY, considered by many as the BEST BAKERY in LA CEIBA! Fresh home baked products made from natural ingredients with no preservatives added. Try their famous cinnamon rolls, considered the best in Central America! Pies, pastries, French Baguettes and Italian biscotti, as well as a variety of breads are all available. Outstanding export quality coffee ground daily provides the best brews in town. A nice air conditioned California style atmosphere. A second location at the Megaplaza Mall is also convenient. They are now also offering daily special subs made with their freshly baked baguettes!”

“After 10 years of Voluntary Educational Work in Honduras, my husband and I found I was pregnant and we needed to provide an income for our growing family. We had often said how we missed having a ‘real’ bakery in town, and that it was a huge missed opportunity for someone.” So they went ahead and grabbed the opportunity themselves and in four years they have never once looked back. Today there is still no other competition for Laura’s Bakery in La Ceiba and even after two shops there is still plenty of opportunity for further expansion.

Although Laura’s background is in nutrition, and she has enjoyed baking at home, neither she nor her huband had ever done anything on a commercial scale. So it’s a source of real pleasure to them both, that they have built a profitable and successful business from the ground up , learning as the go. These days they know the ins and outs of the business well, and will offer their services to the new owner to make a smooth transition even for a limited time after the sale if the new buyers wish.

Only mad dogs and Englishmen keep proper accounts for small businesses in the Caribbean, oh and ..Laura’s Bakery. Its very rare to find a true and faithful representation of the balance sheet for any business whether locally owned or expat owned in most of the Caribbean countries. But this business comes with true professional accounting. A rare find indeed!

Expats interested in buying the bakery business will discover that there are few legal difficulties preventing an easy transition to a new life in La Ceiba. The services of an experienced lawyer at the start of the purchase can also include implementation of the Residency Application as soon as the purchase has been agreed. Laura is very happy to recommend professionals for legal and relocation services.

Eight competent employees run the show and the business does not need to close during transition of ownership. This is a turn-key, profitable, debt-free opportunity to run a small business in the Caribbean at an affordable price.

“The perfect buyer?” Laura says in answer to my question “is a partnership. One partner loves to bake and the other does the numbers.”

Sounds like a mouthwatering piece of cake to me!

Real Estate Investment Conference

The Biggest Real Estate Investments Are Made At the Wholesale Level
"An investment in real estate, like any other kind of investment, can be made at two levels: the “retail” level and the “wholesale” level.

Retail investing can be easy, quick, and even profitable. But it’s not likely to make you rich. The most prosperous investors find their way to the wholesale side of the equation."
Leif Simon

The Dominican Republic Report - The Complete Report On The Dominican Republic.

There are many places you can go to in the Caribbean, but there is only one spot that has been called "The Best Kept Secret".

That place is the Dominican Republic, and the time to find out about this investors paradise is sooner, not later! You can find out about basic statistics from any book-store travel guide, but not the honest kind of perspective you are looking for. What is it really like to live there? What is the cost of living? How do I find the real estate or apartment bargains? Can I find good Internet access? What is the shopping like? How about banking rates? Ask most Americans about the Dominican Republic, many have not heard of it. For those that have discovered it while on vacation, many have decided to call it home. Whether you are looking for something different ~ like Santo Domingo's 500 year old Zona Colonial ~ The Left Bank of the Caribbean, or just a great Caribbean escape at an affordable price - The Dominican Republic is the Place. Offshore Investors are also starting to discover the country. Many are calling it the best investment opportunity of the new millennium. We could not agree more.
